Arabic and English Niyyat for All Namaz Intention (Fajr, Zuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha, Nafl & Special Prayers)

It is very important to know about the Arabic and English Niyyat for all namaz intentions. In today’s post, only the niyat of prayer has been discussed, in which you will learn the intentions of all prayers that a Muslim performs, from the niyat of Fajr prayer to Isha, Jumma, and all other prayers.

Here, the intention for obligatory (farz) prayers offered behind the Imam has been explained. Therefore, for those prayers which you do not perform behind the Imam, you should not include the words “behind the Imam” in the niyat. Fajr Namaz Intention

Sunnat-e-Muakkadah Intention

نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْ سُنَّةِ الْفَجْرِ الْمُؤَكَّدَةِ لِلَّهِ تَعَالَى مُتَوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ.

Transliteration:
Nawaytu an usalliya rak‘ati sunnati-l-fajri al-mu’akkadah lillāhi ta‘ālā mutawajjihan ilā al-ka‘bah, Allāhu Akbar.

Meaning (English):
“I intend to perform 2 rakats of Fajr Sunnah Mu’akkadah for the sake of Allah Ta’ala, facing the Kaaba. Allah is the Greatest.”

Farz Intention

نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْ فَرْضِ الْفَجْرِ لِلَّهِ تَعَالَى مُقْتَدِيًا بِهَذَا الْإِمَامِ مُتَوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ.

Transliteration:
Nawaytu an usalliya rak‘ati farḍi al-fajri lillāhi ta‘ālā muqtadiyan bihādhā al-imām mutawajjihan ilā al-ka‘bah, Allāhu Akbar.

Meaning (English):
“I intend to perform 2 rakats of Fajr Farz for the sake of Allah Ta’ala, behind this Imam, facing the Kaaba. Allahu Akbar.”.

Zuhr Namaz Intention

Sunnat-e-Muakkadah Intention (Zuhr Sunnat-e-Qabliyah)

نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ أَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ سُنَّةَ الظُّهْرِ الْمُؤَكَّدَةِ لِلَّهِ تَعَالَى مُتَوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ.

Transliteration:
Nawaytu an usalliya arba‘a raka‘āt sunnata-ẓ-ẓuhri al-mu’akkadah lillāhi ta‘ālā mutawajjihan ilā al-ka‘bah, Allāhu Akbar.

Meaning (English):
“I intend to perform 4 rakats of Zuhr Sunnat-e-Muakkadah for the sake of Allah Ta’ala, facing the Kaaba. Allahu Akbar.”

Farz Intention

Sunnat-e-Muakkadah Intention (Zuhr Sunnat-e-Ba’diyah)

نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ أَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ سُنَّةَ الظُّهْرِ الْمُؤَكَّدَةَ لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَى مُتَوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ.

Nafl Intention

نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ نَفْلَ الظُّهْرِ لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَى مُتَوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ.

Transliteration:
Nawaytu an usalliya rak‘ataini nafl-az-ẓuhri lillāhi ta‘ālā mutawajjihan ilā al-ka‘bah, Allāhu Akbar.

Meaning (English):
“I intend to perform 2 rakats of Zuhr Nafl for the sake of Allah Ta’ala, facing the Kaaba. Allahu Akbar.”

Asr Namaz Intention

Sunnat Intention

نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ أَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ سُنَّةَ الْعَصْرِ لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَى مُتَوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ.

Nawaytu an usalliya arba‘a raka‘āt sunnata-l-‘aṣri lillāhi ta‘ālā mutawajjihan ilā al-ka‘bah, Allāhu Akbar.

Meaning (English):
“I intend to perform 4 rakats of Asr Sunnat for the sake of Allah Ta’ala, facing the Kaaba. Allahu Akbar.”

Farz Intention

نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ أَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ فَرْضَ الْعَصْرِ لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَى مُقْتَدِيًا بِهٰذَا الْإِمَامِ مُتَوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ.

Maghrib Namaz Intention

Farz Intention

نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ ثَلَاثَ رَكَعَاتٍ فَرْضَ الْمَغْرِبِ لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَى مُقْتَدِيًا بِهٰذَا الْإِمَامِ مُتَوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ.

Transliteration:
Nawaytu an usalliya thalātha raka‘āt farḍa-l-maghribi lillāhi ta‘ālā muqtadiyan bihādhā al-imām mutawajjihan ilā al-ka‘bah, Allāhu Akbar.

Meaning (English):
“I intend to perform 3 rakats of Maghrib Farz for the sake of Allah Ta’ala, behind this Imam, facing the Kaaba. Allahu Akbar.”

Sunnat-e-Muakkadah Intention

نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ سُنَّةَ الْمَغْرِبِ الْمُؤَكَّدَةَ لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَى مُتَوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ.

Transliteration:
Nawaytu an usalliya rak‘ataini sunnata-l-maghribi al-mu’akkadah lillāhi ta‘ālā mutawajjihan ilā al-ka‘bah, Allāhu Akbar.

Meaning (English):
“I intend to perform 2 rakats of Maghrib Sunnat-e-Muakkadah for the sake of Allah Ta’ala, facing the Kaaba. Allahu Akbar.”

Nafl Intention

نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ نَفْلَ الْمَغْرِبِ لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَى مُتَوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ.

Transliteration:
Nawaytu an usalliya rak‘ataini naflal-maghribi lillāhi ta‘ālā mutawajjihan ilā al-ka‘bah, Allāhu Akbar.

Meaning (English):
“I intend to perform 2 rakats of Maghrib Nafl for the sake of Allah Ta’ala, facing the Kaaba. Allahu Akbar.”

Isha Namaz Intention

Sunnat Intention (Sunnat-e-Qabliyah)

نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ أَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ سُنَّةَ الْعِشَاءِ لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَى مُتَوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ.

Transliteration:
Nawaytu an usalliya arba‘a raka‘āt sunnata-l-‘ishā’i lillāhi ta‘ālā mutawajjihan ilā al-ka‘bah, Allāhu Akbar.

Meaning (English):
“I intend to perform 4 rakats of Isha Sunnat for the sake of Allah Ta’ala, facing the Kaaba. Allahu Akbar.”

Farz Intention

نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ أَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ فَرْضَ الْعِشَاءِ لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَى مُقْتَدِيًا بِهٰذَا الْإِمَامِ مُتَوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ.

“I intend to perform 4 rakats of Isha Farz for the sake of Allah Ta’ala, behind this Imam, facing the Kaaba. Allahu Akbar.”

Sunnat-e-Muakkadah Intention (Sunnat-e-Ba’diyah)

نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ سُنَّةَ الْعِشَاءِ الْمُؤَكَّدَةَ لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَى مُتَوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ.

Transliteration:
Nawaytu an usalliya rak‘ataini sunnata-l-‘ishā’i al-mu’akkadah lillāhi ta‘ālā mutawajjihan ilā al-ka‘bah, Allāhu Akbar.

Meaning (English):
“I intend to perform 2 rakats of Isha Sunnat-e-Muakkadah for the sake of Allah Ta’ala, facing the Kaaba. Allahu Akbar.”

Nafl Intention

نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ نَفْلَ الْعِشَاءِ لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَى مُتَوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ.

Transliteration:
Nawaytu an usalliya rak‘ataini naflal-‘ishā’i lillāhi ta‘ālā mutawajjihan ilā al-ka‘bah, Allāhu Akbar.

Meaning (English):
“I intend to perform 2 rakats of Isha Nafl for the sake of Allah Ta’ala, facing the Kaaba. Allahu Akbar.”

Witr Intention

نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ ثَلَاثَ رَكَعَاتٍ وَاجِبَ الْوِتْرِ لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَى مُتَوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ.

Transliteration:
Nawaytu an usalliya thalātha raka‘āt wājiba-l-witri lillāhi ta‘ālā mutawajjihan ilā al-ka‘bah, Allāhu Akbar.

Meaning (English):
“I intend to perform 3 rakats of Isha Witr for the sake of Allah Ta’ala, facing the Kaaba. Allahu Akbar.”

Nafl Intention

نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ نَفْلَ الْعِشَاءِ لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَى مُتَوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ.

Transliteration:
Nawaytu an usalliya rak‘ataini naflal-‘ishā’i lillāhi ta‘ālā mutawajjihan ilā al-ka‘bah, Allāhu Akbar.

Meaning (English):
“I intend to perform 2 rakats of Isha Nafl for the sake of Allah Ta’ala, facing the Kaaba. Allahu Akbar.”

Jumma Namaz Intention

Sunnat-e-Muakkadah Intention

نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ أَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ سُنَّةَ الْجُمُعَةِ الْمُؤَكَّدَةَ لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَى مُتَوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ.

Transliteration:
Nawaytu an usalliya arba‘a raka‘āt sunnata-l-jumu‘ati al-mu’akkadah lillāhi ta‘ālā mutawajjihan ilā al-ka‘bah, Allāhu Akbar.

Meaning (English):
“I intend to perform 4 rakats of Jumu‘ah Sunnat-e-Muakkadah for the sake of Allah Ta’ala, facing the Kaaba. Allahu Akbar.”

Farz Intention

نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَرْضَ الْجُمُعَةِ لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَى مُقْتَدِيًا بِهٰذَا الْإِمَامِ مُتَوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ.

Sunnat-e-Muakkadah Intention

Sunnat-e-Muakkadah Intention

نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ سُنَّةَ الْجُمُعَةِ الْمُؤَكَّدَةَ لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَى مُتَوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ.

Transliteration:
Nawaytu an usalliya rak‘ataini sunnata-l-jumu‘ati al-mu’akkadah lillāhi ta‘ālā mutawajjihan ilā al-ka‘bah, Allāhu Akbar.

Meaning (English):
“I intend to perform 2 rakats of Jumu‘ah Sunnat-e-Muakkadah for the sake of Allah Ta’ala, facing the Kaaba. Allahu Akbar.”

Nafl Intention

نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ نَفْلَ الْجُمُعَةِ لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَى مُتَوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ.

Transliteration:
Nawaytu an usalliya rak‘ataini naflal-jumu‘ati lillāhi ta‘ālā mutawajjihan ilā al-ka‘bah, Allāhu Akbar.

Meaning (English):
“I intend to perform 2 rakats of Jumu‘ah Nafl for the sake of Allah Ta’ala, facing the Kaaba. Allahu Akbar.”

Funeral Namaz (Namaz-e-Janazah) Intention

نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ صَلَاةَ الْجَنَازَةِ بِأَرْبَعِ تَكْبِيرَاتٍ فَرْضَ الْكِفَايَةِ لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَى عَلَى هٰذَا الْمَيِّتِ مُقْتَدِيًا بِهٰذَا الْإِمَامِ مُتَوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ.

Transliteration:
Nawaytu an usalliya ṣalāta al-janāzati bi-arba‘i takbīrāt farḍa-l-kifāyati lillāhi ta‘ālā ‘alā hādhā al-mayyiti muqtadiyan bihādhā al-imām mutawajjihan ilā al-ka‘bah, Allāhu Akbar.

Meaning (English):
“I intend to perform the funeral prayer with four takbirs, which is an obligation of the community, for this deceased, behind this Imam, for the sake of Allah Ta’ala, facing the Kaaba. Allahu Akbar.”

Tahajjud Prayer Intention

نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ نَفْلَ التَّهَجُّدِ لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَى مُتَوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ.

Transliteration:
Nawaytu an usalliya rak‘ataini naflat-tahajjudi lillāhi ta‘ālā mutawajjihan ilā al-ka‘bah, Allāhu Akbar.

Meaning (English):
“I intend to perform 2 rakats of Tahajjud Nafl for the sake of Allah Ta’ala, facing the Kaaba. Allahu Akbar.”

Ishraq Namaz Intention

نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ نَفْلَ الْإِشْرَاقِ لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَى مُتَوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ.

Transliteration:
Nawaytu an usalliya rak‘ataini naflal-ishrāqi lillāhi ta‘ālā mutawajjihan ilā al-ka‘bah, Allāhu Akbar.

Meaning (English):
“I intend to perform 2 rakats of Ishraq Nafl for the sake of Allah Ta’ala, facing the Kaaba. Allahu Akbar.”

Chasht (Duha) Namaz Intention

نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ نَفْلَ الضُّحَى لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَى مُتَوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ.

Transliteration:
Nawaytu an usalliya rak‘ataini naflad-duḥā lillāhi ta‘ālā mutawajjihan ilā al-ka‘bah, Allāhu Akbar.

Meaning (English):
“I intend to perform 2 rakats of Chasht (Duha) Nafl for the sake of Allah Ta’ala, facing the Kaaba. Allahu Akbar.”

Awwabin Namaz Intention

نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ نَفْلَ الْأَوَّابِينَ لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَى مُتَوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ.

Transliteration:
Nawaytu an usalliya rak‘ataini naflal-awwābīn lillāhi ta‘ālā mutawajjihan ilā al-ka‘bah, Allāhu Akbar.

Meaning (English):
“I intend to perform 2 rakats of Awwabin Nafl for the sake of Allah Ta’ala, facing the Kaaba. Allahu Akbar.”

Salatul Namaz Intention

نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ أَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ نَفْلَ صَلَاةِ التَّسْبِيحِ لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَى مُتَوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ.

Transliteration:
Nawaytu an usalliya arba‘a raka‘āt nafl ṣalātit-tasbīḥ lillāhi ta‘ālā mutawajjihan ilā al-ka‘bah, Allāhu Akbar.

Meaning (English):
“I intend to perform 4 rakats of Salatul Tasbeeh Nafl for the sake of Allah Ta’ala, facing the Kaaba. Allahu Akbar.”

Taraweeh Namaz Intention

نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ سُنَّةَ التَّرَاوِيحِ الْمُؤَكَّدَةَ لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَى مُقْتَدِيًا بِهٰذَا الْإِمَامِ مُتَوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ.

Transliteration:
Nawaytu an usalliya rak‘ataini sunnata-t-tarāwīḥi al-mu’akkadah lillāhi ta‘ālā muqtadiyan bihādhā al-imām mutawajjihan ilā al-ka‘bah, Allāhu Akbar.

Meaning (English):
“I intend to perform 2 rakats of Taraweeh Sunnat-e-Muakkadah behind this Imam, for the sake of Allah Ta’ala, facing the Kaaba. Allahu Akbar.”

Tahiyyatul Wudhu Namaz Intention

نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ نَفْلَ تَحِيَّةِ الْوُضُوءِ لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَى مُتَوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ.

Transliteration:
Nawaytu an usalliya rak‘ataini nafl taḥiyyati al-wuḍū’i lillāhi ta‘ālā mutawajjihan ilā al-ka‘bah, Allāhu Akbar.

Meaning (English):
“I intend to perform 2 rakats of Tahiyyatul Wudhu Nafl for the sake of Allah Ta’ala, facing the Kaaba. Allahu Akbar.”

Tahiyyatul Masjid Namaz Intention

نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ نَفْلَ تَحِيَّةِ الْمَسْجِدِ لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَى مُتَوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ.

Transliteration:
Nawaytu an usalliya rak‘ataini nafl taḥiyyati al-masjidi lillāhi ta‘ālā mutawajjihan ilā al-ka‘bah, Allāhu Akbar.

Meaning (English):
“I intend to perform 2 rakats of Tahiyyatul Masjid Nafl for the sake of Allah Ta’ala, facing the Kaaba. Allahu Akbar.”

Qasr Namaz Intention

Apart from Farz prayers, all other prayers should be performed in full rakats.

Farz Intention Behind a Resident Imam:

Zuhr: 4 → 4 rakats
Asr: 4 → 4 rakats
Isha: 4 → 4 rakats
Fajr: 2 (same as it is) – same intention
Maghrib: 3 (same as it is) – same intention

Personal Farz Intention (During Travel):

Zuhr: 4 → 2 rakats
Asr: 4 → 2 rakats
Isha: 4 → 2 rakats
Fajr: 2 (same as it is) – same intention

Qaza Namaz Intention

Salatul Hajat Namaz Intention

نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ نَفْلَ صَلَاةِ الْحَاجَةِ لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَى مُتَوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ.

Transliteration:
Nawaytu an usalliya rak‘ataini nafl ṣalāt al-ḥājati lillāhi ta‘ālā mutawajjihan ilā al-ka‘bah, Allāhu Akbar.

Meaning (English):
“I intend to perform 2 rakats of Salatul Hajat Nafl for the sake of Allah Ta’ala, facing the Kaaba. Allahu Akbar.”

Salatul Tauba Namaz Intention

نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ نَفْلَ صَلَاةِ التَّوْبَةِ لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَى مُتَوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ.

Transliteration:
Nawaytu an usalliya rak‘ataini nafl ṣalāt at-tawbati lillāhi ta‘ālā mutawajjihan ilā al-ka‘bah, Allāhu Akbar.

Meaning (English):
“I intend to perform 2 rakats of Salatul Tauba Nafl for the sake of Allah Ta’ala, facing the Kaaba. Allahu Akbar.”

Istikhara Prayer Namaz Intention

نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ نَفْلَ صَلَاةِ الاِسْتِخَارَةِ لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَى مُتَوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ.

Transliteration:
Nawaytu an usalliya rak‘ataini nafl ṣalāt al-istikhārah lillāhi ta‘ālā mutawajjihan ilā al-ka‘bah, Allāhu Akbar.

Meaning (English):
“I intend to perform 2 rakats of Istikhara Nafl for the sake of Allah Ta’ala, facing the Kaaba. Allahu Akbar.”

Salatul Kusuf (Khusuf) Namaz Intention

نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ نَفْلَ صَلَاةِ الْكُسُوفِ لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَى مُتَوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ.

Transliteration:
Nawaytu an usalliya rak‘ataini nafl ṣalāt al-kusūf lillāhi ta‘ālā mutawajjihan ilā al-ka‘bah, Allāhu Akbar.

Meaning (English):
“I intend to perform 2 rakats of Salatul Kusuf (Khusuf) Nafl for the sake of Allah Ta’ala, facing the Kaaba. Allahu Akbar.”

Salatul Istisqa Namaz Intention

نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ نَفْلَ صَلَاةِ الاِسْتِسْقَاءِ لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَى مُتَوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ.

Transliteration:
Nawaytu an usalliya rak‘ataini nafl ṣalāt al-istisqā’i lillāhi ta‘ālā mutawajjihan ilā al-ka‘bah, Allāhu Akbar.

Meaning (English):
“I intend to perform 2 rakats of Salatul Istisqa Nafl for the sake of Allah Ta’ala, facing the Kaaba. Allahu Akbar.”

Eid-ul-Fitr Namaz Intention

نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَاجِبَ صَلَاةِ عِيدِ الْفِطْرِ مَعَ سِتِّ تَكْبِيرَاتٍ زَائِدَاتٍ لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَى مُقْتَدِيًا بِهٰذَا الْإِمَامِ مُتَوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ.

Transliteration:
Nawaytu an usalliya rak‘ataini wājiba ṣalāti ‘īdi-l-fiṭri ma‘a sitt takbīrāt zā’idāt lillāhi ta‘ālā muqtadiyan bihādhā al-imām mutawajjihan ilā al-ka‘bah, Allāhu Akbar.

Meaning (English):
“I intend to perform 2 rakats of Eid-ul-Fitr prayer (wajib) with 6 extra takbirs, behind this Imam, for the sake of Allah Ta’ala, facing the Kaaba. Allahu Akbar.”

Eid-ul-Adha Namaz Intention

نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَاجِبَ صَلَاةِ عِيدِ الْأَضْحَى مَعَ سِتِّ تَكْبِيرَاتٍ زَائِدَاتٍ لِلّٰهِ تَعَالَى مُقْتَدِيًا بِهٰذَا الْإِمَامِ مُتَوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ.

Transliteration:

FAQs – Complete Method of Namaz Intention (Hanafi)

What is intention (niyat) in prayer?
Answer: Intention is the intention of the heart that we are performing which prayer, how many rakats, and only for Allah.

Is it necessary to say the intention with the tongue?
Answer: No. Having the intention in the heart is sufficient. Saying it with the tongue is Sunnah/Mustahab.

How to make intention for Fajr prayer?
Answer: Make the intention in your heart: “I am performing 2 rakats (Sunnat/Farz) of Fajr for the sake of Allah.” You may also say it verbally if you wish.

Is a separate intention required for every prayer and rakat?
Answer: Yes. In every prayer, the name of the prayer (Fajr, Zuhr, etc.), number of rakats, and whether it is Farz/Sunnat/Witr must be determined in the heart.
